FAQs about Cohesive Breast Implants
April 3, 2014
There has been a phenomenal rise in the breast implant surgery in the entire world which is rated after botox procedures as the most popular cosmetic surgery method. Due to increased demand the breast implant surgeries have gone through revolutionary changes which have made the process more safe and reliable. But since there is no health insurance covered for such surgeries and above than they are expensive there are different kinds of questions that pop up regarding such surgeries. These are clubbed together in this article and are given below.
What Is The Difference Between Silicone Gel Implants and Cohesive Gel Implants?
Initially there were two types of gel implants- saline water implants and silicone gel implants. The former was preferred most as the later came up with some complications. Regular silicone gel implants were improvised in the later years and were called cohesive gel implants. These are called cohesive because unlike the former these new improved silicone gel implants are very much firmer. When cut into two halves, the cohesiveness of the gels are so strong that they would not move from their position even if due to gravitational effect. The earlier ones were also cohesive but not to this extend.
What about the FDA Aprroval?
In 1992 the Food and Drug Administration department has disapproved the use of silicone gel implants and took the decision that using saline water implants are the best form. But recently a very few companies like MemoryGel and Natrelle 410 implants from Allergan, Inc. has been granted the permission for making their products used for breast implants. But the approval is not a complete approval in the true sense of the term. For instance the former company has been instructed to lay down the safety data about the use of these gel implants. Hence a survey will be conducted for a period of ten years on 43,000 thousand women about the post surgery effects of breast implants.
How Will A Patient Know That There Is A leakage?
There is usually very less cases of leakage in cohesive gel implants. But this kind of cohesive implant is actually made to prevent against leakage issues. Firstly the cohesiveness of the implants is actually the biggest benefit. Even if one cuts them into two, the silicone gel inside the implant will keep to its firmness. Secondly, after an implant surgery, the body forms a capsule around the implant. In case there is a leakage, the capsule actually prevents the implant to drift out.
The real answer to every type of breast implant surgery lies with the surgeon on whose expertise and skill the success of the procedure depends. Moreover, always remember that breast implant is a long term solution but not a permanent solution.
