How many hours do you sleep every night? How much is enough? Do you put your sleep needs ahead of your busy schedules? Or do you tend to sleep less and drink more coffee instead? Sleeping disorders and sleep deprivation affect your health and lifestyle.

Many people are confused and have no idea how much sleep is actually enough to function. Getting too much or too little sleep is not good for your health. You need to find the silver lining to get enough rest and start the day.

Is eight hours enough?

National Sleep Association claims that the amount of sleep you need changes with age. There is no universal solution for everyone’s sleeping needs. You may sleep for five hours and feel just fine, whereas your partner needs to get a proper eight hour sleep to have a productive day. It is all relative and very personal.

If you don’t get enough sleep and wake up moody every morning, your body will accumulate the sleep debt. If you do nothing about the sleep debt your body will start sending you tired signals. You may feel incredibly tired, get sick easily or become sleepy at work. That is why you need to pay off for the lack of sleep as it can seriously affect your health.

The next time you decide to stay up late instead of going to sleep, remember that the lack of sleep increases the risk of car accidents.

Sleeping, exercising and health

Have you ever wondered why you crave some greasy food before going to sleep? Sleep deprivation increases your appetite. It has a potential to increase your body mass and cause diabetes.

Exercising and sleep have a connection that many people are unaware of. Many skip exercising because they feel too tired. It probably has a clear connection with the lack of sleep. Everyone knows how good exercising is for the body, it helps your heart to function properly and builds your muscles. It produces endorphins that help you deal with stress. Exercising also improves the quality of your sleep.

It is a well known fact that exercising right before going to bed is not a good idea. Your body will be agitated and unable to fall asleep. Your body muscles, heart and brain will be actively working right after exercising.

Morning exercising is a great way to start your day. It will wake you up and put you in a good mood. An active work out session in the afternoon will guarantee you a healthy sleep at night. Cardiovascular exercising, stretching yoga, strength training have a positive impact on your sleeping habits. Your heart rate will raise and your muscles will actively work. Exercising two or three times a week will improve your health condition. Make it a part of your routine and you’ll notice the improved sleep quality. Jogging, swimming, or biking – it is up to you to decide what to do on a regular basis. No matter what you choose just stick to it.
